The last leg south took us a few days to complete, and we stayed in several places. The route took us to Cuenca, Loja, Pindal, and on to the border crossing to Peru at Lalamor.

Nature was, as every other route, so incredibly varied and beautiful. Ecuador is indeed a breathtakingly pretty place. The road was up and down mountains, and the sector between Cuenca and Loja was difficult in places due to very large landslides, sometimes covering more than one whole lane (out of two, so it needed careful maneuvering to get through).

We ate some trout in a place where they organise sports fishing, and they even had a few ponds where you could catch your own trout. Some kids were keen to get into that, of course. Ecuador is a country growing flowers for export, particularly roses. Their local florists sell them along the roads, and in squares. Very colourful!

Cuenca is a UNESCO world site, with a historic center. Loja is a music and art city, with a custom of a band of police officers playing in front of the cathedral on Sundays.

Pindal is a very special place. We spent a night there, having the pleasure of getting to know the family of a new friend of ours. The family has a hotel, a restaurant and a very nice place for events with a pool and a fruit orchard. We slept well, ate a nice dinner and breakfast, and got to sample fresh fruit off the tree.
