Boquete and Bocas del Toro

When we entered Panama in 2025, we needed to move on as we had a ship to get to. We saw the west of the country, but nothing of the east.

Panama is a small country and there is one road to go to Panama City. Now we drove this same road in the other direction to get back to David, and from there we turned east to reach the border from Bocas del Toro in Panama to Limon in Costa Rica.

Our first stop was Boquete. This area in the mountains was completely different from what we had seen previously in Panama. Being on altitude made the stay very pleasant. The drive from Boquete to Bocas del Toro was through forests and up and down mountains, and after a while we had a beautiful view of the Caribbean. Arriving in Bocas del Toro, we were back in the humid heat that is Panama.

Our last leg before being back home in Costa Rica was the quite short drive to the Sixaola-Guabito border. It wasn't a difficult border, at least not after having been through the ones in and out of Venezuela. It is still a mystery to us why no country has a clearly signposted route for people to follow at border crossings. This one had its share of hidden immigration windows and corners where to go. To get the car back into Costa Rica we now needed the paper with the permit to take it out last year. Advice from a seasoned couple: never, ever lose a piece of paper.

And before we knew it, we were back in Costa Rica
