The stay in Panama City dragged on, we were there for a week after we left the car in Colon, and got to know the city a bit. While we waited for the car to be shipped to Cartagena, which was scheduled for 20 May, we went to the Miraflores Locks. This Lock is in Panama City, and it has been developed to show the building, the development and the workings of the canal.

There is an Imax movie theater showing a film narrated by Morgan Freeman. This film tells the story about how the canal came about, and it is certainly worth watching. At Miraflores there is also viewing platforms for the visitors to stand next to the lock and see how it works. The canal was expanded some years ago to be able to cater for the huge ships used now, and the viewing of those new lanes has not been developed so it is still the original part. A taxi driver told us that there is a viewing place in Colon where people can see both the old and the new. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Canal

Meantime, we booked flight tickets to move on to Cartagena 21 May, as the car was to leave 20 May. Then the shipping company changed the departure date to 25 May, and we didn't want to wait any more so now we are in Colombia and the car in Panama. The flight was uneventful, and the topic for the next blog post will be Cartagena.

Before we left Panama City we went for a walk to one of the most exclusive shopping malls. This was an experience, not because of the mall but because when we crossed a bridge, in the middle of the city, and looked into the river, there was this log in the water.
