We have made it to Honduras! The first stop is in Choluteca, where we are spending a night recovering from the border crossing before we move on to Tegucigalpa. We crossed at El Guasaule.
You can be sure that crossing a border in Central America is not for the fainthearted. You will need time, patience, the investigative mind of Sherlock Holmes, and then some. After our successes entering first Nicaragua from Costa Rica, and now Honduras from Nicaragua, we are considering joining the troops of "volunteers" helping travelers. They are actually helping, and for not a lot of money. Today we ended up driving behind a guy riding his bike against the traffic to overtake all the trucks and on to the foot path so that we could get the car to immigration into Honduras. Not what one would be used to from crossing the border between Sweden and Denmark!
We thought it was hot in León at +33C, but that was only until we came to the border crossing where we spent a couple of hours in +37C without even a fan. The Nicaraguan side was well equipped, so we got a bit spoiled, but we had to quickly just get used to it.
In Choluteca we are staying at one of the few hotels, which is not one of the best we have seen. It has a safe, private car park. The local park by the church is very nice. We walked there from the hotel and found the nicest cafe for a second breakfast in the late afternoon. In Honduras it is mainly safe to stay in populated areas during daylight hours, so we will do that.
