After our first stop in Choluteca, we drove north to the capital city of Tegucigalpa.

The first thing to say about it all is that Honduras in an extremely beautiful country, with mountains and valleys all around and as far as the eye can see. Every time you have had a moment of special awe over a view, there is another that is taking your breath away. The name of the country Honduras, which means depths in Spanish, is very fitting indeed.

Then it hurts to carry on saying that we have been warned at every turn how we have to be careful and that it is very dangerous to be here. We take great care not to challenge the warnings and we are out only during daylight hours, go to places with local taxi drivers from the hotel where we stay, and have the car always either in a locked, private car park or on the street in front of our eyes. So far in Honduras we have been stopped by the police only once, and it went well as we have nothing to hide.

We have progressed to Siguatepeque, where we are spending the night before carrying on to San Pedro Sula.

On the way we have also passed Comayaga. This, and Siguatepeque, are dry, dusty, messy, and - yes, I ran out of words. In Comayaga we had nothing we needed to do, but Harold took the opportunity to fill up the car. This ought to be a non-event, but this one time the lid to the tank lock decided not to want to cooperate. We spent a nervous 15 minutes desperately trying to figure it all out as it has never been stuck before, and in the end we managed to open it. All petrol stations have armed guards walking around, and that certainly doesn't make me feel any safer.

Harold ate an anafe at a local restaurant. What Karin ate is not really that important...

Thank you all who send us messages, we read all of them!

More about San Pedro Sula in a few days.
